ASIA-PACIFIC - After a final two-way pitch, it is understood that ZenithOptimedia has beaten incumbent OMD to the bulk of the regional media account for health and beauty retail chain Watsons.

It is believed the agency is due to sign the contract with the client imminently. Sources close to the review indicated the business is worth more than US$30 million.

The scope of the win is understood to include 10 markets including Singapore, the Philippines, Korea and Indonesia. However, it is understood that OMD has retained the business in mainland China and in Thailand.

Omnicom Media Group’s PHD scooped the media account for AS Watson Group in Hong Kong last December.

PHD is now taking charge of the media planning and buying for Marionnaud, Park 'n Shop, Watsons, Watsons Water, Watsons Wine Cellar, Mr Juicy, great, Taste, Gourmet and Fortress brands.

AS Watson is a wholly owned retail subsidiary of Hong Kong-based conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa.

The group announced late last year that it would accelerate the expansion of Watsons stores in the mainland. The group will open another 500 Watsons stores over the next two years to tap China’s fast-growing market for health and beauty products.
