Vizeum Shanghai snaps up Kungfu

SHANGHAI - Vizeum Shanghai has snapped up the media account for Guangdong-based Chinese fast-food chain Zhen Gong Fu (Kungfu) after a pitch believed to be against Starcom.

The client previously handled media planning and buying in-house but was not active in the advertising side.

“The client is very concerned with cost, as the business has now expanded to more than 300 outlets. They want the new agency to raise its overall brand awareness,” said Ken Lee, planning director, Vizeum Shanghai.

The fast-food market in China is crowded with international giants like McDonald’s and KFC. However, Kungfu started in Guangdong in the mid-90s and differentiated itself from other fast food chains by specialising in healthy steamed Chinese food with an emphasis on taste and nutritional value.
