WFH diary: In the company of cats and pandas

Google's communications lead in Hong Kong finds her new workplace companions distracting, but also soothing.

WFH diary: In the company of cats and pandas

Working from home can be challenging, it’s a different environment than the usual workspace, plus
there are additional distractions around the house. Here’s a peek into my working day.

To stay strong and healthy, I schedule a daily workout routine with YouTube, where a wide variety of
workouts videos can be found: HIIT, pilates, plank, and more. It’s equally important to set yourself in the right mood, so make sure you get changed like what you normally do at the gym. Just like at the gym, you might need to wait for someone else to finish using the equipment.

It’s easy to lose track of time when you are home all day. Making good use of the Calendar helps. Simply marking "lunch" and “tea break” is an easy way to allocate breaks during the day. Despite social distancing, we can still stay connected by hosting virtual coffee chat or TGIF over Hangouts with colleagues and friends. Do spread positivity by sharing something good or fun from the day. Like today, I get to enjoy a cup of tea with an AR panda.

Cats do bond with people. While I’m working or having a video call, my cat takes a nap by my side. It
challenges me to stay focused.

Over the weekend, I create my own cat cafe with a cup of tea and a good book.

As a final reminder, breathe. Sometimes we forget to do so when working or under stress. Take a
deep breath, practise “breathe in calm, exhale stress” more often. Stay healthy everyone!
