KUALA LUMPUR - ESPN Star Sports has launched its first ever 24/7 football television channel in Malaysia, branding the offering as FOX Football Channel.

A spokesperson declined to comment on whether the decision to make Fox the central brand name was motivated by News Corp's buyout of the ESPN stake in ESPN Star Sports or whether similar branding would be applied to other properties.

Featuring more than 500 league matches globally, FOX Football Channel makes its debut in Malaysia through Telekom Malaysia’s first IPTV service HyppTV Channel 173.

Available on broadband service UniFi, the channel will feature live Spanish La Liga BBVA matches; weekly coverage of top games from Argentina’s Primera División, the Eredivisie Dutch League and the Russian Premier Liga; matches featuring Manchester City and Chelsea; as well as highlights, magazine shows and football news updates around the games.

Fans can also stay up-to-date with ‘FOX Football Updates’ aired during the day, with football news and highlights from all over the world.

“Round the clock football content from the top international leagues is a great way to begin and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership with HyppTV,” Peter Hutton, managing director of ESPN STAR Sports, said.

The coverage of the Liga BBVA on FOX Football Channel will kick off this weekend with a match between Barcelona and Real Madrid on 8 October at 1.30am.
