DeAnda to take over from Wenzel at TBWA\Hakuhodo

TOKYO - Luis DeAnda (pictured) is to succeed Gary Wenzel as chief operating officer of TBWAHakuhodo, as Wenzel prepares to move to a network leadership role in New York.

DeAnda, who is currently serving as group account director and regional managing director of Media Arts Lab, a specialist unit established to service Apple in China and Japan, will work alongside chief executive Ichiro Zama. Zama took on the position at the head of the agency in April.

In a statement, Wenzel described DeAnda as a “great asset”. “He is one of those rare talents in our business who is very strategic, a great judge of creative work, and very creative in his own right. I am confident I am leaving TBWAHakuhodo in good hands,” Wenzel said.

Having played an important role in the establishment of the joint venture with Hakuhodo’s designated Nissan group G1 in Japan, Wenzel said he felt the time was right to “move on”. He has spent a total of eight years in Japan.

Prior to working as global account director within G1, DeAnda worked at Publicis & Hal Riney and Rubin Postaer & Associates.

TBWAHakuhodo recently won a digital assignment for the Maybelline Pure Mineral cosmetics brand.
