Korea's 'team Kim' cashes in on curling competitiveness

The South Korean silver medallists have inked a four-year deal with LG.

South Korea’s women's curling team, which won silver in last month’s Olympics in PyeongChang, will act as the new face of LG Electronics' cordless vacuums and other home appliances during the four years between now and the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

Known as 'Team Kim' because the members share the common surname, the team achieved "a level of celebrity usually associated with celebrities and K-pop stars", according to the brand. Ad Nut hasn't learned Korean (yet) and so isn't sure what's being said in these ads. But Ad Nut supposes that the presence of sweeping in the sport made it inevitable that the team would be put to work promoting cleaning appliances. At least LG appears to be giving the women some tongue-in-cheek material to work with:

Like much of the world, Ad Nut tuned into the curling events last month expecting to make fun of what seems a silly sport, but ended up transfixed for many hours at a time.
