TOKYO - The Holland Business Promotion Office (HBPO) has appointed Weber Shandwick as public relations partner in Japan as it prepares to celebrate the 400th anniversary of a trading agreement between the two nations.

Weber Shandwick appointed ahead of Dutch-Japanese trade anniversary
According to a statement from Weber Shandwick, the agency will be responsible for developing and coordinating an 'HBPO mission', which will travel to Japan to mark the occasion.

Weber Shandwick will be expected to arrange business seminars as well as press duties and communications support for the delegation.

In the statement, Weber Shandwick Japan president and chief executive Akihiko Kubo described Japan’s commercial relationship with Holland as being among “the most productive and long-standing”. He said the anniversary would act as a reminder of “both the legacy and the potential of Dutch-Japanese trade”.

Trading between the two countries was first approved in 1609.

Last month, Weber Shandwick announced its intention to open an office in the Korean market.
