Trading places: Last week's people moves within Greater China

Keeping up with 'who is where doing what now' in the fast-changing markets of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan is an ongoing challenge when the talent pool is never (ahem, satisfied with their pay) stable. Here is a roundup of the last week's major people moves in advertising, marketing, media and digital. Please let us know if we missed anyone.

Asterio Gutierrez (pictured) has joined independent agency Fred & Farid’s Shanghai office after more than a year at AKQA. He will be co-heading FF’s creative department with Feng Huang. Gutierrez is listed as one of the top (31st) copywriters in the world in the Big Won rankings.

Rogier Bikker, whom we are familiar with from his work at Brand New China and Energize, has been appointed as the new China managing director for Rewir. He replaces Martin Stenberg who left for a new position at Danske Bank in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Venus Lai has been appointed managing director of ZenithOptimedia Hong Kong as part of the re-organisation of the agency after Florence Wong left earlier in December 2014 to join New Media Group. Prior to this, Lai spent the last four years with L’Oreal HK as its media director.

Nicholas Chew has been promoted to the head of marketing for Esprit China. He joined in July 2012 as then marketing and PR manager from Ogilvy & Mather China. In a short span of two and a half years at Esprit China, he undertook additional roles in creative, CRM and digital alongside e-commerce.

PHD has announced the promotion of Lars Bjorge to chief digital officer for Greater China. He joined the media agency in 2011 as head of digital strategy and helped to lead the development of digital specialist capabilities such as search, programmatic, social, mobile and measurement analytics.

Shunya Communications Group has hired Jeffrey Wu as group chief strategy officer. Wu assumed office on 1 February. Before joining Shunya, he was executive vice president of Always Marketing Services, and also serves as executive vice president of Effie Greater China Awards.

Danny Mok is officially the new CEO of Leo Burnett's China operations after predecessor Donald Chan's departure. Last year, LB lost two long-time clients, BMW and Coca-Cola, under Chan's watch. Mok will report directly to Jarek Ziebinski, chairman and CEO of Leo Burnett Asia Pacific.

Three weeks after renaming its Hong Kong operation to spotlight Spencer Wong, McCann s making more changes, bringing in a new GM Florence Kong as current MD Dave McCaughan departs the network after 28 years. Kong was previously at TBWA Tequila Hong Kong.
