HONG KONG - Strategic Public Relations Group has acquired government relations and public affairs agency AsiaNet Communications in Hong Kong.

Established by Heidi Cheng in 2007, AsiaNet focuses on providing communications and public affairs counsel to a range of government departments and organisations, as well as private businesses.

Cheng's experience includes 16 years at the Information Services Department of Hong Kong, where she handled election campaigns and international outreach programmes.

A host of other government roles include head of external affairs of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, and press secretary to the chief secretary for administration.

“SPRG is a market leader and Richard is without doubt an influential veteran in the communications industry,” Cheng said.

“I am honoured to join the SPRG family and am confident that AsiaNet will complement SPRG’s existing range of integrated communications services.”

Cheng will continue to lead AsiaNet, and the agency will look to explore opportunities across SPRG’s clients portfolio.

SPRG will seek to benefit from AsiaNet’s deep public affairs experience, particularly in advising international clients targeting the Hong Kong and China markets.

“We are excited by the prospect of Heidi taking a leadership role in public affairs communications on behalf of SPRG, as well as leveraging her experienced team, which will expand accordingly, said Richard Tsang, chairman of SPRG. “We look forward to better connecting to a wider clientele that requires such services in particular, which also complements our plan to aggressively expand the business of AsiaNet.”
