They beat nine other teams from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Vietnam. Apart from the metal, each of them will receive a full complimentary delegate pass to Spikes 2010.
Kenneth Choong, Belinda Lu, Arh Chun Ngai and Celeste Ang made up the team, and 27-year-old Choong said the award “would help us gain industry recognition”.
The Sri Lanka team of Arvinda Salwatura, Charith De Silva, Lanil Peiris and Madhumallee Hewakapuge representing Triad took the silver medal, while the Philippines team of Nicolas Gabriel Abrenilla and Aston Martin Aquino, both of DentsuINDIO won the bronze medal.
The winners were decided by the Young Spikes Jury made up of Sonal Dabral, regional CD Asia and chairman India at Bates 141, Jason Kuperman, VP digital development at Omnicom Group, and Steve Blakeman, chief planning officer Asia-Pacific at Mediabrands.
The brief came from Mercy Relief, an independent non-governmental charity organisation established in response to the human tragedies that periodically beset Asia.
When disasters strike, major corporations are quick to donate money and in-kind services. The challenge was how to keep the donations coming even during times of ‘peace’ so that Mercy Relief is operationally ready to respond quickly and appropriately.
The participants, all under 28 years old, were briefed on Tuesday and given just 48 hours to create an exciting, innovative and eye-catching integrated campaign for Mercy Relief. All teams submitted their entries yesterday, Thursday 17 September.
Teams were asked to present their campaigns using 250 words or less to describe how the campaign would be launched and executed across at least three appropriate channels. They were also tasked to create at least one piece of supporting material for any traditional or non-traditional media.
