Porsche deletes post on Threads that said ‘9.11 is my favourite time of the day’

Some social media managers are defending Porsche’s post, saying it clearly did not allude to the 9/11 attack on the United States.

Porsche deletes post on Threads that said ‘9.11 is my favourite time of the day’

Porsche published, and then deleted, a post on Threads saying, “9.11 is my favorite time of day. Coincidence? I think not."

The post was likely referencing Porsche’s 911 model variants. Although it was deleted, some comments are visible from Threads users who said the German automobile manufacturer should have rethought the post, knowing that some people might link it to the 9/11 attacks on New York City and Arlington, Virginia.

A Porsche spokesperson was not available for comment.

On LinkedIn and X, screenshots of Porsche's now-deleted post circulated this week, and social media managers debated whether the brand used poor judgment.

Joe Goulcher, a creative director at Boomerang, said, “Nope try again.” Many comments on his LinkedIn post agree with him.

Guillermo Cummings, a freelance social media manager, wrote, “I understand why some would overreact to this, but the 911 is Porsche's most iconic car model, they should be allowed to create engagement around it without making them feel guilty about September 11. Not everything is about the United States.”

Amy Brown, senior social copywriter at Assembly Media and Wendy’s former social media manager, said she agreed with Cummings, but also understood the backlash.

“On one hand, I agree with you, but on the other hand, I feel like it's kind of a miss not to realise ‘Uh oh, obvious 9/11 joke. I'm not offended but more in the camp of...damn, seems avoidable!,” Brown replied.
