Bukalapak hires PHD Indonesia

Indonesia’s largest online marketplace, Bukalapak, has appointed PHD Indonesia as its media agency.

Following a five-agency pitch, PHD was selected to handle Bukalapak’s offline media duties and develop its in-house digital media capabilities. PHD takes over from incumbent Dentsu X.

Bukalapak was established in 2010, and has since grown into Indonesia’s fourth unicorn.

James Hawkins, CEO of PHD APAC, said the win was an endorsement of “the ‘new look and feel’ of PHD Indonesia” under general manager Nadia Zain’s leadership. Zain said PHD was thrilled to partner with Bukalapak “and work with them on their ambition to grow the nation’s economy”.

Ari K Wibowo, associate vice president of brand at Bukalapak, said: “Throughout the review process, PHD demonstrated a clear understanding of our objectives and put forward the best plan for how we can achieve them.”
