Ad Nut

You can see why Oppo would delete these painfully bad ads

The question is why they were ever made, let alone posted, in the first place.

Every once in a while, the marketing gods bestow upon us mere mortals a gift: advertising so incredibly awful that even a creature as adept with language as Ad Nut is left sputtering in speechless disbelief.

Ad Nut lives for these times.

According to a report on the website Android Police*, China-based smartphone maker Oppo posted the two videos you see here on its Twitter account last week, but then hastily deleted them, for reasons that will be obvious if you watch them.

Ad Nut recommends, for the sake of your sanity, that you not attempt to apply logic to any of the many questions that you are bound to have. (To mention just two: Who thought a situation that sounds like office sexual harassment made a good lighthearted plotline, and WTF is the deal with the brain-breakingly hilarious overdubbing?).

Rather, you should simply treasure these clips as the astonishingly perfect gems of cringe that they are.

That way, they are sure to bring joy that will accompany you throughout the today, till bedtime. Seriously.

* Ad Nut's friends at Campaign are reaching out to Oppo for confirmation of Android Police's reporting and for comment.

Ad Nut would also like to acknowledge the little birdy and dear friend that brought these videos to Ad Nut's attention.

Update, 15 October: A spokesperson for Oppo provided the following statement: "The two video content were created by OPPO ColorOS team. They were uploaded and then quickly removed from ColorOS' social media platforms. We sincerely apologize for the confusions that these videos may bring to you. OPPO is a company in pursuit of active and healthy values. It is important to be more mindful on creating diverse and inclusive marketing content in consideration of different cultural backgrounds in different countries and regions."

Ad Nut is a surprisingly literate woodland creature that for unknown reasons has an unhealthy obsession with advertising. Ad Nut gathers ads from all over Asia and the world for your viewing pleasure, because Ad Nut loves you.
