Squarespace courts Aussie and Kiwi trades with 'shear' nostalgia

The in-house taps retro classic folk songs to bring enduring real world trades into the digital age.

We know nostalgia never goes out of style, but given the incredible success of 'The Best Place in the World to Get Herpes' campaign in Cannes, it's clearly having a big moment in Australia and New Zealand.

One of the best recent examples of this released just before Cannes Lions is the in-house work done by the creative team at website builder platform, Squarespace. Their latest ANZ campaign is particularly aimed at Aussie 'tradies', courting tradespeople to build their own businesses online, much like they build and serve people and businesses through their physical labour in the real world.

For this, the team at Squarespace had fun playing off the old classic folk song 'Click Go the Shears', a tribute to sheep shearers of old.  But in a fun twist, the ad begins a hedge trimmer's shears and works its way through several trades, building to its chorus of 'Click, Click, Click' as we see the tradies building their own websites.
The campaign is now live across video on-demand, out-of-home, and social platforms throughout  Australia and New Zealand.

Campaign's take: This is brilliant work and an absolute perfect choice of song for the intended audience and message. The biggest knock against most in-house work tends to be in the execution, but in this case the spot pulls off the cheeky retro jingle stylep perfectly, without diluting the message.
