Universal Music Group names Sandy Monteiro president of Southeast Asia

REGIONAL - Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, has promoted Sandy Monteiro (pictured) to president of Southeast Asia.

The appointment was made by Max Hole, who will assume the role of chief operating officer, from July, with Monteiro reporting directly to him.

In the past three years, Monteiro has served as the senior VP in overseeing Universal Music's operations across the region, including its digital activities.

Based in Singapore, he will continue to hold these duties in his new post while adding responsibility for UMGI's regional functions in Hong Kong. 

Since joining Universal Music in 2002, Monteiro has taken the company to Malaysia and enhanced its position in countries such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, whilst working to achieve industry lead status for its digital music business.

Separately, managing director George Ash has been promoted to president of Australasia. He will be responsible for Universal Music's operations in Australia and New Zealand.

Globally, Vico Antippas, president of Nordic, Benelux (economic union comprising the Kingdom of Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg), Central and Eastern Europe, has added territorial responsibilities and will oversee Universal Music companies' South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and India operations.

Managing directors Rajat Kakar (India) and Harry Voerman (South Africa/ sub-Saharan Africa) will report to him.
