Miyazawa joined the company last July from Dentsu Network China & North Asia. He will report to Anthony Plant, chief executive of IPG Mediabrands in Japan, who has been filling the role in addition to his other duties.

According to a statement from McCann, Miyazawa will build UM’s business across digital, data and analytics, talent and business development.

Miyazawa has also worked in management consulting and for an information and communications technology (ICT) company.

In the statement, Plant described Miyazawa as “an outstanding thinker and leader who will be able to build UM’s…offering and continue its transformation by making it the most enviable media agency in Japan.”

Plant said Miyazawa’s digital and international experience were “a perfect match to UM’s growth plans”.

UM recently won business from BMW and H&M in Japan, where media buying continues to be dominated by the three largest domestic agencies, Dentsu, Hakuhodo and ADK.
