BEIJING - Seasoned Taiwanese creative Tseng Shumei has crossed the Strait to join McCann Erickson Guangming Beijing as its new executive creative director, effective last Monday.

At McCann Beijing, Tseng will fill the vacancy left by Bill Chan, who resigned in February. She will report to the agency's managing director June Lyloc.

Tseng has over 20 years' advertising agency experience in Taiwan. Following stints at several local agencies, she joined BBDO Taiwan and then became ECD at Asatsu-DK for seven years until she left to concentrate on writing and freelance work in 2006. She has also been involved in documentary work and the well-known Taiwanese bookshop chain Eslite Bookstore.

During her time working at agencies in Taipei, she served renowned clients including Chunghwa Telecom, Taishin International Bank, Pioneer, VISA and Wyeth Centrum.

Tseng said she needed time to adapt to the life in Beijing, an ancient capital that is very different from her life on the island. "I am still experiencing a 'cultural shock' in Beijing," she said.

"Beijing is a very challenging but interesting market, and the McCann Beijing team is like a microcosm of Asia with colleagues from different parts of the region," she added. "The more hybrid the cultures, the fresher and more stimulating creative ideas we could generate."
