Suning come top in China IT and applicance retailer brand survey

SHANGHAI – Nanjing-based Suning is the most recommended IT and appliance retailer in China, according to the latest Holaba brand war survey.

Suning is one of the largest privately-owned appliance retailers in the country. A total of 4965 people gave Suning a thumbs up, following Gome (4127) and Buynow (3643). US-based player Best Buy gets the least number of score at 2309, just above domestic Xieheng brand (2464).

Gome was once the dominating appliance retailer in China. However, the founder Huang Guangyu was recently found guilty of insider trading, causing the reputation of the retailer to go down.

Breaking down the data, Suning is liked across a spread of age demographics. People aged 19 to 29 and 40 to 49 recommend the brand the most. Suning also appeals most to people in Central China.

Brand reputation for Suning revolves around good services in store and after sales.

Gome is most loved in Chongqing (with 21 per cent of local residents), while Shanghai has the least fans for the brand (14 per cent).

Buynow appeals to more people in Guangdong (14 per cent) compared to Shanghai (9 per cent) and Beijing (8 per cent). Buynow is known for its hip store layouts and quality services. The only problem that consumers have for Buynow is that it is more expensive than other retailers.

A total of 12 brands are evaluated in this Holaba survey. Other brands include D.Phone, Cymart, Yongle, Ego, Pacific Digital Plaza, PC Mall and Shenzhen Electronics Group.

Previous brand wars include social networking site, shaving brands and Chinese telecoms companies.
