StarHub TV customers can also look forward to more local football and sports coverage on the new channel following a contract signing between the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and StarHub to broadcast S.League matches, as well as an agreement between Singapore Sports Council (SSC) for content collaboration on selected local sporting events production.

StarHub will air two live S.League matches weekly. A total of 54 S.League matches will be aired over the course of the season, almost double the 28 games broadcast over free-to-air last year.

Having successfully partnered to offer the inaugural Asian Youth Games and the Standard Chartered Marathon last year, SSC and StarHub will collaborate further on original local sports content through an agreement.

This includes the production of programmes on sports in schools, and the development of sports-related applications on StarHub’s TV and mobile platforms.

According to a statement, the collaborations aim “to build a strong sporting culture by extending the exposure of local sporting events to over half a million households, giving Singapore’s football league and budding sports talents a bigger platform to shine”.

SuperSports Arena will also broadcast a mix of international sports events including football matches from the Spanish La Liga and German Bundesliga; live telecasts of the ATP World Tour 250 series and International Hockey Federation events plus other sporting genres like golf, wrestling and bowling among others.

This latest move will boost StarHub TV’s sports content having lost the exclusive broadcast rights to the popular Barclays Premier League football tournament last year.
