SHANGHAI - Bolon, a mid-range Chinese eyewear brand, has chosen French actress Sophie Marceau as its brand ambassador in China.

Sophie Marceau lends French glamour to Chinese eyewear brand

Marceau has started to appear in a campaign this month that includes TV, internet, print and in-store elements, with visuals shot in Paris featuring the brand tagline “My Paris, My Bolon”.

Johnny Huang, CEO of Bolon, stated that Marceau "epitomises Parisian elegance for billions of consumers" and so "symbolises perfectly what Bolon stands for: a sophisticated, romantic and artistic image”.

Bolon is a flagship brand under Essilor International, which acquired it in 2013 from Xiamen Yarui Optical Company. According to Marceau herself, Bolon is a "young and promising quality sunwear brand".

She also states that China has "a very special place" in her heart. And indeed, the French actress has been popular in the China market over the past decade.

A 2008 CCTV programme described her as possessing "a pair of wide, clear, brown eyes" that have "a feeling of melancholy in her gaze that seems to cast a spell over the whole world". Her popularity also led her to be invited to perform classic French song “La Vie En Rose” in a duet with Chinese pop star Liu Huan during CCTV's Spring Gala in 2014.
