Huang's appointment follows the departure of Deryk Tang, who decided to move back to Hong Kong after being with OMD for two years.  He has taken up a parallel role at MPG Hong Kong.

The appointment is part of OMG's positioning to strength the network's international client roster, which includes Johnson & Johnson, McDonald's, VISA, Standard Chartered Bank and Fonterra. The Group has also had a soft launch of its PHD division in Taiwan.

Huang was with Ming Weekly (ERA Media), a publisher in Taiwan, where she held the position of CEO for a brief stint. She has a broad range of career experience in advertising and marketing disciplines as well as over 12 years' media experience working with other networks including Media Brands (UM), Aegis Media and VivaKi.

"We believe there are huge opportunities in the Taiwanese market for agencies like OMD to offer clients first-class media and marketing communications services," Maggie Choi, CEO of OMD Asia Pacific said. "Elle is the perfect local talent to provide strong leadership backed by solid market experience. She has a thorough understanding of the challenges that face Taiwan, such as inflation, talent shortage and cut-throat competition."

She said Taiwan saw double digit growth in adspend this year, which indicates the market has bounced back from the recession.
