Kitty Lun, chairman and CEO of Lowe China, commented that Tan is both a friend and a colleague and has had a great impact on the quality of Lowe's creative product and agency culture. "He leaves behind a creative department that is one of the finest in China," she said. "I will announce his successor in due course.”

Tan "pioneered truly skillful storytelling" in the Chinese industry with work for clients including Buick and Alipay, added Jose Miguel Sokoloff, president of Lowe and Partners Creative Council.

Originally from Singapore, Tan had an earlier seven-and-a-half year stint at JWT that ended in 2005. He joined Lowe in 2009.
