Leo Burnett wins top honours at Malaysia Effies

The agency won nine total awards including one of only two golds handed out, the other of which went to Grey Malaysia.

At the 12th Malaysia Effie Awards Friday night, Leo Burnett was named Agency of the Year and its client Maxis was named Brand of the Year.

The awards saw a total of 138 entries, from which 40 finalists were shortlisted, and the jury awarded two gold, eight silver, and 20 bronze awards.

All told, Leo Burnett Advertising won one gold (for 'The Unheard Prayer' for Maxis), two silvers, and six bronzes.

The other gold award went to Grey Malaysia for its 'Wanita Besi' work for Pantene (see "Yuna depicts strength in Pantene campaign for Malaysia" and "'Stay in sport' Pantene Malaysia urges girls").

Maxis won the aforementioned gold, plus one silver and four bronze awards.

The panel of 60 judges was led by chief judge Datin Seri Sharifah Menyalara Hussein, CEO and founding partner of M&C Saatchi Kuala Lumpur. The awards were organised by the Association of Accredited Advertising Agents Malaysia (4As) and supported by the Malaysian Advertisers Association (MAA) and Media Specialists Association (MSA), in association with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).
