Hu joined Jaguar Land Rover last June. Prior to that, he was head of brand marketing at Volkswagen Group China, having been at the company for a period of just over six years.

Reports in the Chinese press have suggested that Hu will be involved in the launch of the VW-owned Seat brand in the China market, but this has not been verified. Hu did not respond to request for comment on his new role at press time.

It is understood that Hu’s position at Land Rover has been filled by Bo Rui Ki, executive vice-president of Jaguar in China, who has assumed responsibility for both car brands.

According to figures cited on Sina, Land Rover sold just over 36,000 units in China in 2011, an increase of 54 per cent on the previous year. China is expected to become the brand’s largest market by 2013.

Hu’s career has also included stints at Northwest Airlines and Ogilvy.
