KUALA LUMPUR - GO Communications has been awarded the Tourism Victoria PR account after a multi-agency pitch.

The agency will handle the account for two years.

The agency's chief operating officer, Peter de Kretser (pictured), said that tourism was one of agency's strengths. He said: “It was a long tough pitch against some strong contenders.”

De Kretser added: “Tourism for any country or state is a major contributor to the GDP. It’s a fact that investment always follows tourism. Winning Tourism Victoria is an exciting challenge, because you are building the brand of a state and country, not just a product or company. Its communications at the highest level where mistakes can be costly.”

In Malaysia, meanwhile, GO Communications has won the communications account for one of Sabah’s biggest property developers, Kinsabina Group.

Kinsabina is planning to build eight hotels in Sabah over the next two years. The first project is a hotel on Mt Kinabalu. It’s the first and only hotel to be built on the famous mountain.

“The tourism potential for Sabah is enormous – it’s got pristine beaches, rainforests and the world’s best diving. Sabah can take over from Phuket and Bali to be the next big tourist destination in Southeast Asia," said De Kretser.

Earlier this year GO Communications announced plans to expand in Southeast Asian markets including Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia.
