Equniox won the media account after a competitive two-way pitch with other 4A media agencies earlier this year.

The Shanghai store, located on Huai Hai Road in Shanghai, takes up a sales area of 9,500 square meters. Media Markt's operations in China is done through a Guangdong-based US$200 million joint venture with Taiwan's Foxcoon technology group. Foxconn, the biggest OME manufacturer in the world, has a client portfolio that includes Apple.

Media Markt said China's electronics retail market is expected to hit US$209 billion in 2013. Its major competitors in the Mainland include local giants Gome and Suning, as well as American brand Best Buy.
