Promoting action for climate change by empowering people with the power to change the world, the campaign is supported by Nadya Hutagalung, WWF Singapore’s official Earth Hour Ambassador. She will use social media to encourage her Twitter followers to take up challenges to reduce their carbon footprint on Earth.
Her husband, ex-national swimmer Desmond Koh, has posed a challenge to her that if she can get 60 of her Twitter followers to take on a herbivorous diet for a month, he will cycle to the Earth Hour celebration at Orchard Road on 31 March.
Nadya has in turn posed a challenge to her husband, that if he can get six of his friends to be vegetarians for a month, she will cycle to the Earth Hour celebration.
Three radio stations, SAFRA radio stations, Power 98 fm and Jia 88.3 fm will also take part in the eco-challenge, pitting against each other in a battle to garner the most support from their listeners who will commit to an eco challenge for two weeks.
With the showdown beginning tomorrow (22 February), the first station to receive 100 pledges will only need to turn off the lights in their recording studio for a day while the losing stations will have to do so for a week.
Earth Hour recently moved its global headquarters from Sydney to Singapore, representing the next frontier of the campaign with Singapore acting as a gateway that connects Southeast Asia with the rest of the world. A Youtube video platform for Earth Hour has since been launched.
