Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific expands partnership with J:COM

TOKYO - Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific has announced that it will start delivering 3D programmes in Japan from 1 August.

It will partner with the Jupiter Telecom-operating VOD service, J:COM, and the Lismo Video Store, operated by KDDI.

“We were a pioneer in HD as the first international broadcaster in Japan to launch a 24/7 channel and now, we are moving to the next phase of television viewing with 3D," said James Gibbons, senior vice-president and general manager, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific – Japan. "This 3D content offering provides viewers with a 'closest-to-real' viewing experience from the comfort of their own homes. Our new 3D on VOD option will enable viewers to enjoy their favourite programmes in a whole new way and learn more about our linear channels.”

Viewers with a 3D televisions will be able to watch Discovery Channel’s Ghost Lab and Animal Planet’s The Haunted in three dimensions. Discovery Networks International also announced that it has signed its first 3D deal with BSkyB and Virgin Media, two UK distribution partners.
