Twitter surpassed the 100 million user mark, recording growth of 82 per cent since the start of the year. The milestone comes on the heels of an announcement by the company that it would be expanding its sponsored Tweets service to include promotional Tweets from brands that users don’t actually follow themselves.

Former social networking site Friendster recorded an increase of over half a millions new users since its relaunch as a social gaming platform in mid-2011. Currently, over 90 per cent of Friendster’s users are Asia-based with its most popular games being ‘Boomz’ and ‘Dragon’s call’.

Tribal DDB Singapore picked up the digital account across the region for Unilever's Cornetto ice cream brand after a pitch. The agency will be responsible for managing online communications for the brand's 'Say it with Cornetto' campaign set to roll out across several Asian markets next year.

Singapore Airlines finally entered the social media space by taking over an unofficial Facebook page which was run by a passionate fan for several years, as well as launching a Twitter account. The airline will use the two platforms as communication and engagement tools with users, which agency TBWA provided consultations on.  

Aquarius Asia, a digital online marketing firm, appointed Sharon Ho as group client director and Wan Sze as associate creative director for its new Shanghai office. Ho brings over 10 years' experience in integrated communications most recently with Publicis Hong Kong as senior account director, while Sze has over eight years' experience in advertising and integrated marketing disciplines.

Wunderman and Agenda opened new offices in Guangzhou, bringing the number of the network’s offices in China to six including Beijing and Shanghai. Heading the new operations will be K2 Chung Tai Kung, previously managing director of Agenda Beijing, who relocates to Guangzhou to take on the role.

DraftFCB Shanghai appointed Ethan Tsao as integrated creative director, responsible for further elevating the agency’s digital and integrated focus. He joins the agency from investment company J. Christopher Capital which runs an online fashion business, where he was head of creative. 

Euro RSCG was selected by Reckitt Benckiser for a digital project on the launch of Dettol high performance for men, a new range of soap and shower gel designed just for men. The project will include social media executions for the pre-launch and launch phases in Singapore this year.

Tribal DDB is set to launch the digital network's first office in Guangzhou, bringing the number of its offices in the Greater China region to five. It has existing offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei, with the Guangzhou office planned to offer highly strategic creative solutions to its clients in the city.
