Yu (pictured), well-known in the industry for his cheerful personality, joined Bates Asia in 2006, becoming one of the Taiwan ad industry’s youngest-ever executive creative directors (ECDs). He helped the agency to become the top agency of the year in Taiwan and won numerous international and local awards including Cannes, D&AD, One Show, Clio, London, and Spikes.

Yu is also a familar face in the international advertising industry, having been invited to serve on the judging panels for Adfest and the China 4A Awards, among others.

"We're all very thankful for the efforts Richard has made, and for the great creative reputation he's brought to this company," Tyson Deng chairman of Bates Asia Taiwan told Campaign. "We've already identified an ideal successor as the new ECD of Bates Taiwan. But due to our internal operating process, we will wait to release the news to the public."

"I feel very fortunate to have joined Bates Taiwan six years ago and grateful to my boss, who has given me this wonderful platform to allow me to attract a bunch of passionate creative talents to the agency," Yu said. "This has been a very influential and joyful part of my career to prepare me for the challenges ahead."

ADK Taiwan's clients include Hitachi, Shiseido, YKK, Uniqlo, Citizen, and Cathay Life.

As reported in November, Maggie Chao, former vice president and decade-long employee of David Advertising Taiwan, has become the general manager of Bates Taiwan. Henry Chu, long-serving managing director of Bates 141 Taiwan, resigned at the end of July citing health considerations.
