With over two decades of creative experience, the former chief creative of BBDO Greater China is bringing his talents to McCann Worldgroup, which has been shaking up its China leadership team over the past year.

Arthur Tsang joins McCann Worldgroup as Greater China chief creative officer

McCann Worldgroup has brought in one of Greater China’s most highly experienced creative leaders to join its leadership team as chief creative officer of the region.

Arthur Tsang has joined McCann after leaving BBDO, where he spent five years leading both the Greater China region and the global Mars business, while also creating award-winning campaigns for Budweiser and Harbin Beer.

In his new role, Tsang will be based in Shanghai and report directly to Carter Chow, CEO of McCann Worldgroup Greater China.

“I’m thrilled to be finding a new home at McCann Worldgroup," Tsang said of the new role. "I have always admired McCann’s ‘Truth Well Told’ philosophy and in times like these, nothing could be more important or relevant. I look forward to carving out a new chapter of that truth with Carter and the team.”

According to the agency, Tsang’s arrival adds “significant creative firepower” to the new vision of the agency. The network has reaffirmed its strategic focus on innovation-led growth, emphasising the development of culturally relevant, forward-thinking ideas designed to engage audiences, strengthen brand equity, and deliver long-term business results across Greater China.

“In today’s competitive, fast-moving landscape, brands need creative ideas that don’t just spark short-term attention, they need ideas that build lasting brand value," Chow said. "Arthur’s ability to connect cultural insight with commercial strategy will be a huge asset as we continue to help our clients craft enduring brand platforms.”

An Oxford graduate in physics and philosophy, Tsang spent his early career in investment banking and professional music before beginning his advertising career at Ogilvy & Mather, where he led projects for Hong Kong Disneyland, Unilever, and Coca-Cola. He later held significant leadership roles at Saatchi & Saatchi and BBDO, serving as CCO Beijing and the global lead for Mars during a 15-year partnership. While at BBH Greater China, he collaborated with Google and Samsung and co-created 'Meet the Daydreamers', an original reality show with Tencent Video.

“Arthur brings the kind of energy and joy that our industry needs right now, reminding us that creativity should be as fun as it is powerful," said Valerie Madon, CCO of McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific. "I’ve always admired how he combines that spirit with strategic thinking, maturity, and an ability to elevate those around him. He’s not only a brilliant creative mind, but also a natural mentor and leader. I’m confident he will inspire our teams and nurture the next generation of talent across Greater China.”

This appointment marks a key step in McCann Worldgroup's strategy to enhance its leadership team in China. This initiative follows several senior hires made since last year, including Chow, who joined the agency from VML last July and new chief client officer, Mae Ng, who joined McCann China in February. McCann’s former China chief creative officer Yinbo Ma left the agency in 2023 and later joined Havas China as its chief creative.
