Chang’s new role at Celestial is effective 8 March. He will oversee the distribution of the pan-regional channels including theatrical and TV series production businesses. He is also tasked with increasing brand awareness and communication across Asia-Pacific and globally.

According to Chang, the Asian movie and content industries have huge potential as the market is growing at an insane rate and its just the beginning. "When the quailty of the content in China reach a certain level, it will open up tremedous opportunities overseas," said Chang.

Besides local markets that already have the population to sustain the growth of the industry, international audiences are also buying into it. However, Chang admits that Celestial is competing in a very crowded market.

Chang joined Sony Pictures Television in 2005. He relocated to Hong Kong from Los Angeles to lead the regional marketing team at Sony. Chang has also worked at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Ross Pollack, who joined Celestial as CEO last September, said the appointment is part of a bigger management shuffle. Peter Poon and Rosa Li also joined the company as senior VP and creative executive respectively earlier this month from Media Asia Entertainment Group.

Celestial Pictures is an Asian-language film and television content producer and distributor.
