Aldi gets the holiday season off to a crashing start

If our pal Ad Nut is receiving Christmas ads, it must be early November.

Aldi gets the holiday season off to a crashing start

A crash landing teaches a visitor from the far north that Aussies mean it when they say 'The more the merrier', in this campaign for Aldi by BMF.

The grocery chain aims to communicate that its low prices make it easy to welcome unexpected guests. The film shows that the friendly denizens of the outback are quite handy not only at putting out a lavish spread, but also at fixing busted up sleighs.

The campaign launched Friday with some unbranded teasers (here, here and here), then went to TV Sunday. It also includes online video, social, a website, a weekly catalogue, digital display, in-store materials, radio, outdoor, and press.

Programming note: The last two years, Ad Nut went a wee bit overboard with the holiday-ad coverage (see "Holi-dazed: Ad Nut's ridiculously long Christmas-ad review" and "Holi-dazed II: Ad Nut's ridiculously long 2017 Christmas-ad review"). As a result, some of Ad Nut's dear friends staged an intervention and convinced Ad Nut that mainlining holiday cheer to such an obsessive degree is not entirely healthy. So Ad Nut has pledged to keep this year's holiday-ad coverage within the bounds of sanity. You can check out Campaign UK's special section if you really need to see a great many Christmas ads. Ad Nut will (hopefully) stick to writing about only the most exceptional ads, with a bias toward APAC work.

Ad Nut is a surprisingly literate woodland creature that for unknown reasons has an unhealthy obsession with advertising. Ad Nut gathers ads from all over Asia and the world for your viewing pleasure, because Ad Nut loves you.
