Ronaldo's Shopee ad is gloriously ridiculous

The world-famous athlete and endorser displays dance moves that are not to be missed.

As promised yesterday, online retailer Shopee has debuted an ad starring part-time football icon and seemingly full-time brand ambassador Cristiano Ronaldo.

It is...quite something.

Ad Nut supposes it is ridiculous on purpose rather than accidentally ridiculous, but either way, it is ridiculous. So ridiculous, in fact, that Ad Nut cannot help but give in to its charms and love it—in a furtive, guilty way that makes Ad Nut feel a bit dirty afterward.

It's perhaps been tough to be Ronaldo lately, what with the narrow escape from jail time for tax evasion and the avoiding of charges over a seemingly credible rape accusation.

And it's got to be exhausting making commercials too. For this ad alone, he had to strike more than one pose in front of a green screen, do a little dance for 15 whole seconds, and intone four entire words ("Buy everything at Shopee!") in a bizarre Terminator voice. It's unclear what brands would do without people like Ronaldo to take their boatloads of money in exchange for these heroic feats. Ronaldo made $47 million in endorsement money last year, according to Forbes, but clearly he puts everything he has into his work. Just look at those dance moves!

Ad Nut is happy things are working out for the kid, and devoutly hopes that Ronaldo will see fit to appear in more commercials for our enjoyment in the future.
