Gravity Coffee | Coffee Cupid | New Zealand

Gravity Coffee is playing Cupid to lonely New Zealanders in a digital campaign developed with Auckland agency Shine.

“Fancy a coffee?” is the pick-up line of the century and this caffeine-pumped mission calls on the ‘Coffee Cupid’ to deliver love messages for secret admirers out there that don’t dare to make the move.

The Coffee Cupid microsite guarantees ‘a free coffee, and an actual love life’. The site asks visitors to fill out a description of themselves and the person they have a crush on, detailing hair color, height, hobbies and more.

Shine has created 250 video clips depicting personal traits, which are automatically combined to personalize an interactive video message to the recipient. “We have been transparent in letting the recipient know that a secret admirer is making contact. And providing all these options lets people have a little fun, whether they’re hoping for a date, or just a laugh,” explained Lucien Law, creative director at Shine.

A trailer circulating online shows Coffee Cupid roaming New Zealand identifying people in need of romance; he invites people to join him via the website and take a step to make their love lives more exciting.

“From a small truth in people wanting to meet over a cup of coffee came this explosive idea in which we made Gravity the vehicle,” said Law. “Coffee Cupid is a bit of a rogue but he is also a guy that does his job, which is to put people together.”

PR activities are also a major element of the campaign.
