Manulife touts 91-year-old agent's world-record service

The insurer honoured a Hong Kong agent's 68-year (and counting) career.

It's a bit of a stretch for Campaign to cover this, but we're going to call it 'employer branding' because we can't resist.

Manulife Hong Kong has announced that one of its agents, 91-year-old Sun Yung Tsu (Joe Sun), has been awarded a Guinness World Records title for “the longest career as a corporate salesperson”—a milestone he achieved on 11 July when he reached 62 years and 238 days of service with the company.

"I have enjoyed every moment of my first six decades with the company, and I am not planning for retirement yet,” Sun quipped in a press release. “In work and in life, it is important to always look forward and be passionate.”

A native of Shanghai, Sun joined Manulife in Hong Kong in 1954 when the branch had 20 staff (today it has close to 7,000 "advisors") and has won numerous company accolades during his career.

Said Guy Mills, CEO of Manulife Hong Kong:

While technology is creating seismic shifts in the insurance sector, our industry will always rest on people who are dedicated to helping others and developing long-term relationships with clients and colleagues. Joe exemplifies this more than anyone, acting as a true example of the professionalism we should all strive for and the values we should uphold.

Manulife noted that it has been operating in Hong Kong for 120 years, and that the local team also includes Sun's longtime colleagues Paul Hung (56 years of service) and Robert Wilson (49 years).
