Deng (pictured), the new group creative director for Y&R Shanghai, is responsible for the Gap account for starters. He is a seasoned creative who literally just got ‘Shanghai-ed’ after a previous four-year Beijing stint. This is his second return to China.

Before joining Y&R last month, Deng dabbled with a variety of agencies on a freelance basis: Goodby Silverstein & Partners and AKQA in San Francisco, Team One and Deutsch in Los Angeles, and BBDO in Beijing for a variety of clients including Mercedes-Benz, VW, HTC, and Sprint.

Since January last year, he was involved in the launch of campaigns such as Lexus' 2012 rebrand and YouTube's identity refresh.

2009 saw Deng join Cutwater in San Francisco. While there, he helped launch global campaigns for Persol, Ray-Ban and BNP Paribas.

In early 2008 Deng was hired by Mullen in Boston where he served Panera Bread, The Grain Foods Foundation, and New England Aquarium.

Soon after graduating from the Art Center College of Design in 2004, Deng was referred to Ogilvy & Mather Beijing as art director, where he worked on the likes of Motorola, Redbull, Siemens and Airbus. He continued his career at Saatchi & Saatchi Beijing, where he produced work for Sony Ericsson and Toyota.

Deng enjoys design, photography, and generally crafty things—anything from silk screen posters to Hasselblad cameras. He says he is a fan of brutally honest opinions and dry, self-deprecating jokes.
