Tink Labs’ inaugural project is a smartphone rental service called 'handy' that provides tourists visiting Hong Kong with unlimited 3G internet services, local and international phone calls to 17 countries and a preloaded local city guide on the same rented device.
Fleishman-Hillard's assignment is to launch the 'handy' service globally. The agency has developed a "holistic communications program for Tink Labs, aligning media strategies with their advertising and marketing programs" in order to promote the 'handy' service to potential merchants in Hong Kong and to tourists from the Greater China region.
Merchants participating in the soft launch two weeks ago include Pak Loh Chiu Chow Restaurant, Cheers Wine Cellars, Spa L'OCCITANE, and Tung Fong Hung. Tink Labs plans to partner with more merchants in the hospitality and travel industries.
Terrence Kwok, CEO and founder of Tink Labs, said Fleishman-Hillard won the business because it took a similar approach to the startup "combining zeal for problem solving with flair for creativity".
"Over the coming months, we're looking to add even more exceptional features like ticketing to the service and expand our distribution channels," he continued.
Patrick Yu, senior vice president at Fleishman-Hillard Hong Kong, added that Tink Labs, though a home-grown company, has global ambitions and potential.
Inbound tourists can pick up a 'handy' smartphone at the two service counters in the arrivals hall of the Hong Kong International Airport, and even make a free international call to try the service.
Tink Labs said it is the only new tenant selected by the Hong Kong Airport Authority this year to set up service counters in the airport.
