The newly-elected board, which includes members from advertisers, publishers, agencies and technology companies, will serve a two-year term beginning this month.

Thirteen new members join seven incumbent members to form the new board. The new executive committee includes chairman of the board Rahul Welde (vice-president for media at Unilever), vice-chairman Ashutosh Srivastava (chairman and CEO of global emerging markets group at Mindshare Asia) and honorary secretary Andrew Knott (vice-president of digital at McDonald's Corporation).

Barney Loehnis, head of digital for Asia Pacific at Ogilvy & Mather was granted the title of chairman Emeritus.

“I’m excited to see what the new members and the new ExCo bring to the table,” Loehnis said. “I have every confidence that they will bring fresh perspectives and new viewpoints to the work that we do here at the MMA.”

The Asia-Pacific board joins its counterparts in EMEA, LATAM and North America in identifying and advocating for the issues and needs of its particular region.

Its chairman and vice-chairman will also join the global board of directors, which focuses on establishing the overall direction of the industry and the governance of the organisation.

“Thanks to the work done by the board in previous years, we have a strong foundation to build on,” Welde said. “This will serve us well as we move forward to address the opportunities and challenges that face the mobile marketing industry in Asia-Pacific.”

Rohit Dadwal, managing director at Mobile Marketing Association Asia-Pacific, said, “Over the last year we’ve continued to see mobile grow, and with an estimated 3 billion subscriptions in Asia alone, this is definitely the place to be. I am proud to welcome the Asia-Pacific board of directors, who will have a hand in growing the industry in the region. They will drive new initiatives to educate and empower marketers working with mobile.”
