Rich could not be reached for comment on his departure at press time. His next move is not yet clear. Mark Patterson, Asia-Pacific CEO of GroupM, said that Rich “would be embarking on a new venture in the coming months and given that we felt it best for all concerned to part ways now”.

Patterson added that Rich “has built and led a world class content operation right across Asia-Pacific in GroupM and the agencies”.

“He has been an energetic, charismatic and passionate leader and we will miss him tremendously. I am confident he will succeed as much in his new endeavours as he has with us."

Rich became CEO of GroupM Content in 2013. Prior to that he ran GroupM ESP (Entertainment, Sports and Partnerships). He has also held senior roles at Mindshare in Asia and in Europe.

Josh Black will step in as the interim head of content for GroupM in the region. He has worked alongside Rich for the past three years. Andrew Meaden, the company’s Asia-Pacific head of trading, will assume responsibility for GroupM Entertainment in the interim.

“I will also devote additional time, support and attention to the regional and wider teams in all areas of content to ensure we don’t lose momentum and continue the great work and platform that Mike and the team have built,” Patterson said.
