According to sources close to the pitch, the review is focused on Windows’ media positioning and, with that, GroupM and Mediabrands are leading the process for the agency groupings.

From GroupM, Mindshare is leading the process and is supported by JWT and Agenda for the creative and digital aspects of the brief.

Universal McCann is leading the pitch for Mediabrands, with McCann Erickson and MRM also contributing to its creative and digital strategy.

An Omnicom pairing also pitched for the business, but they were not included in Microsoft’s shortlist.

Microsoft first called the pitch last month with the aim of expanding Windows’ presence in the mainland market. Sources said the company was specifically looking for an agency to tackle the issue of software piracy.

A result is expected to be announced next month.
