Walter's appointment closely follows that of Brian Bannister, head of global communications KPMG who was appointed in September. Bannister used to head communications in the UK for PwC.
"I'll be responsible for all external and internal communications for the global chairman Michael Andrew which is very important in an organisation that has over 152,000 employees and an extraordinarily large global client base," Walters told Campaign Asia-Pacific.
Walters will report to directly to Bannister and will be located in the office of the chairman, who based in Hong Kong.
When he was
appointed in October 2011, Andrew opted to relocate KPMG's office of the chairman to Hong Kong as he felt that China and the entire Asia-Pacific region will be crucially important to the future of the business, said Walters.
Walters joins from strategic communications practice FTI Consulting where he was senior vice-president and director, corporate communications.
The post will be filled by in-coming head of corporate communications at FTI, Leo Wood.
