Lufthansa appoints Christian Altmann as GM for Singapore

SINGAPORE - Lufthansa has appinted Christian Altmann as the new general manager for Lufthansa in Singapore. He succeeds Claudia Huegel who assumes a senior management role at the Lufthansa headquarters in Germany.

Altmann will be based in Singapore and is responsible for Lufthansa’s sales and marketing activities in Singapore, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He reports directly to Uwe Mueller, vice-president for the Asia-Pacific region. Mueller is also based in Singapore and is responsible for the regional headquarters of the airline here.

Altmann has served with Lufthansa for over fifteen years. During this time, he has held a number of executive-level positions. Most recently, he was instrumental in setting up Lufthansa Services Thailand, the airline’s regional service centre employing more than 300 staff in Bangkok.

He started his professional career in 1996 with the Lufthansa Graduate Programme. In 1997, he moved to St. Petersburg, Russia to become head of Lufthansa Cargo there. From 1998 to 2002, he served as the managing director of the joint venture Cargo Terminal Pulkovo, also in St. Petersburg.

In 2002, Altmann was relocated to Manila, the Philippines assuming the position of managing director for Lufthansa’s ground services provider GlobeGround. From 2004 to 2006, he was appointed the regional director for Lufthansa’s handling and logistics division covering India, Pakistan and the Middle East. Consequently from 2006 to 2010, he served as the managing director for Lufthansa Services Thailand.
