Landor Associates makes Shanghai heart of Greater China operations

SHANGHAI - Global branding consultancy Landor Associates has opened a Shanghai office, relocating its key leaders to the city it now refers to as its centre of growth gravity for the region.

The Shanghai office is located in the central business district of Jing An, and the agency said that a key goal of the new office is to continue providing world-class service to clients headquartered in the business and financial capital of China, as well as the surrounding Yangtze Delta region.

Among Landor’s clients already in Shanghai are key global clients Citi, Citroen and Kraft, as well as homegrown brands like Tsingtao and Shanghai Media Group.

The office will be the central point of operations in the Greater China region, sharing resources with the Beijing and Hong Kong offices. Landor has relocated its top leadership from Hong Kong to Shanghai, including Henry Chan (pictured). Previously managing director of China for Young & Rubicam in Shanghai, Chan joined Landor as president of Greater China in June 2011. He has more than 20 years of experience in business management and marketing communication in Greater China.

Peter Mack, a veteran of Landor’s Dubai, Hong Kong and San Francisco offices for more than two decades, has also made the move. He has spent the last several years in Landor’s Hong Kong office, working in a strategy and client-services role for the Asia-Pacific region. During his time with Landor, he has worked with brands like Kraft, HP, Haier, Caterpillar and Guangdong Development Bank. He will be responsible for marketing and new business development across Greater China.

Monica Au, currently managing director of the Hong Kong office, has expanded her role to client director of Greater China and will oversee the development of key client relationships in the region. Since joining Landor in 1989, she has directed major projects including global brands like Citi, Danone, Philip Morris, and Procter & Gamble, as well as regional and local accounts including Brand Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific, Midea, SingTel, Pingan and Tsingtao.

Jonathan Mo, executive creative director from Singapore, who joined Landor at the end of 2011, is an award-winning Chinese Australian creative industry practitioner with a broad background and experience in graphic design, advertising, and digital. His awards tally includes Cannes Lions for WWF and Lynx Jet, and six Australian Interactive Media Industry Association awards, including the prestigious Best of the Best award.

“We’re extremely excited to be moving the heart of our Greater China operations to Shanghai," Chan said. "China is the growing engine in the region."

Landor has had a presence in China since the early 2000s. "Our renewed focus and commitment is at once a recognition of the importance of Shanghai as the international business capital of mainland China, and our success in growing our client base there over the last few years," he added.

Founded by industry pioneer Walter Landor in 1941, Landor is a member of the Young & Rubicam Brands network within WPP. It now has 21 offices in 16 countries.
