Minogue will work closely with the creative agency to "set the creative framework from which all elements of the event’s design and branding will flow", according to the agency. This includes the creative execution of three official City of Sydney parties, two fireworks display themes and the musical soundtrack in conjunction with producer Josh Abrahams and David Carbone.

Heath Campanaro, general manager of Imagination, said, "We know Kylie will inject her own special brand of sparkle to Sydney thanks to her talents as a singer, performer and designer."

Minogue, who described the opportunity to work on the celebration as a 'fairy tale', said "“I’m a very proud Australian, so coming home to host Sydney New Year’s Eve is a dream come true.”

In 2011, Imagination delivered its first New Year's Eve event for Sydney, working with Marc Newson as creative director. Media coverage of the event over a period of four months reached 79 million people, up from 2010's celebrations, which reached 60 million.
