Juan Tan spearheads creative team for The Brand Union China

SHANGHAI and BEIJING - The Brand Union has appointed Malaysia-Chinese creative veteran Juan Tan as creative director, China. He will spearhead both of its Beijing and Shanghai offices.

In this newly created role, Tan (pictured) will help set a new standard for creative work for the China network.  In addition to leading the Unilever Food Solutions account, Tan will also focus on Chinese brands such as Gemdale Property, TIENS, CEIBS and SPD Bank. 

An immediate first task for Juan, together with The Brand Union Shanghai, will be to host the network's first Creative Council Asia meeting in China. This begins tomorrow, 29 June, and runs until1 July. More than 15 design and creative leads from across Asia Pacific will attend.

Tan boasts 16 years of advertising experience with 4A agencies in Southeast Asia and China, and is a frequent contributor to numerous Chinese design and branding publications.

Prior to joining The Brand Union, Tan was based in Shanghai as executive creative director for TBWA-TEQUILA in China for six years. There, he led advertising projects for clients such as Chivas, Absolut, adidas, Häagen-Dazs, Pernod Ricard, Siemens and Virgin Mobile. During this time he also served as executive creative director for TBWA’s shopper marketing agency, Integer.

Earlier on, Tan was creative director at TBWA in Jakarta from 1997 to 2004.

“Juan has worked throughout the region and understands how Asian and Chinese brands work," Monica Lee, managing director of The Brand Union, China said. "He is a natural nurturer of creative talent, and is a fun and inspiring creative leader."

Meanwhile, William Woduschegg, The Brand Union's previous executive creative director in China, has started his own agency — Woduschegg & Partners — in Shenzhen. Woduschegg is the new company's CEO and chief creative officer.
