BEIJING - Carat has appointed Joanne Law as managing director of Northern China, replacing Jackie Kuo, who resigned in November after 12 years in office.

Law (pictured) will lead Carat's Northern China operations (Beijing office), focusing on key clients such as BMW, Nokia, Xian-Janssen, and Master Kong.

Jackie Kuo, who had been leading the local team in Beijing, is reportedly headed to Harvard University for further studies.

Originally from Hong Kong, Law job-hopped to Carat from OMD China, where she was deputy managing director and had management responsibility over all offices in China.

Commenting on her 18-year media career in the mainland, including client-side experience at Coca-Cola, Seth Grossman, managing director of Carat China, said, “Joanne's breadth and depth of experience in the China market puts her at the top of our industry".

According to Law, challenges ahead in China are quite different from the past, when demand used to be larger than supply. Now, the maturing Chinese market is getting complicated, prompting media agencies to be more aware of its speed and scale.

Law added that with digital technology creating a complex media environment, Carat’s focus on insights and communication planning will be able to deliver the type of innovative thinking that will help clients.

Carat made a digital move in early January, when it promoted Hristo Cui into the newly created role of general manager for digital.
