HONG KONG - Kartik Ram, former managing director for Iconmobile Asia, has left due to personal reasons, just one week after his appointment was announced.

Ogilvy & Mather clarified that Ram was never appointed vice-president of Ogilvy & Mather Asia-Pacific as he had claimed. However he was based out of Ogilvy's Hong Kong office thanks to a strategic working relationship between Ogilvy and WPP-vested firm Iconmobile.

According to an Ogilvy spokesperson, Ram was appointed by Ogilvy to work at Iconmobile, directly reporting to Chris Reitermann, president of OgilvyOne, North Asia. Ram voluntarily resigned his position as he proved a "less than ideal fit" for the position.

A source close to the issue, however, said that Ram had stepped down due to personal reasons and had returned to his hometown in San Francisco.

At the time of this report, Iconmobile had not responded to queries on Ram's appointment.
