Wu’s main areas of focus will include social media and creative production, mobile marketing, tactical planning and new business development. The successor for his previous managing partner role at MediaCom Interaction is still being identified, the agency said.

Meanwhile GroupM confirmed that Lawrence Wan, who joined the group as e-Business Solutions head just over one year ago, resigned last week. Undisclosed sources said that he was no longer sitting in the executive committee two months ago. Wu will also take over Wan's duties.

Most recently managing partner, MediaCom Interaction in Beijing since 2008, Wu will continue to be based in Beijing and report to Tony Chen, managing director of GroupM Interaction China.

"James will support me in ensuring that GroupM's strategic digital capabilities are fully integrated into our agencies' wider offering," said Tony.

GroupM Interaction China also announced that Sara Ye has been promoted from head of search to managing director, Search/Digital Lab, and Carol Geng, former national digital trading director, has been promoted to general manager of GroupM Interaction.

Reported last January, Meg Wu, former managing director of GroupM Interaction who resigned on 30 June 2010, has joined PPStream as chief marketing officer.
