Dentsu Myanmar, which was set up on 6 February, enables Dentsu Asia to respond promptly to the market potential. Hardy Yang will be running the office as the branch manager of Dentsu Asia Myanmar branch office.
Born in Myanmar, Yang grew up in Taiwan and graduated from Takushoku University in Japan before working in the Dentsu office in Taiwan and Singapore.
Yang said it has been his dream to return to the country where he was born and raised and contribute to its growth.
Dick van Motman, chairman and CEO of Dentsu Network Asia, noted that the agency has been reviewing its operations, including the locations where it should be active, since his appointment last year.
“Myanmar, with its recent positive development, popped out as an obvious choice, not least because our clients are moving into there aggressively,” he added. “Like them, we see the opportunity that Myanmar represents and are looking to bring our portfolio of capabilities and play our part in the development of that market.”
Several Japanese companies have already started to develop their presence in Myanmar, while Western and local companies are also showing an increase in activities there, since the enactment of a new foreign investment in November.
Singapore-based Dentsu Sports Asia, meanwhile, has already commenced work for the 27th South East Asia Games that will be held in Myanmar this year. Demand for advertising activities linked to sports events is also expected.
Dentsu opened for business in Sydney in April 2011.
